MTV's True Life: I'm Deaf

I had never seen this episode before so when I came across it I was super excited to watch it! I think it's interesting how Chris had decided to get another implant even though the one before didn't work the way he had wanted it to. It's awesome to see people over coming obstacles in their life to achieve greatness, so in the heat of finals week remember these exams are just an obstacle for you to reach your greatness and to achieve your goal of getting what you want out of life and becoming the best that you can be! So if something doesn't go as planned like in Amanda's story dust yourself off and pick yourself up because in the end, these exams won't define you- you define you. Good luck!

Here's the show:

  1. I remember watching this episode, and kind of tearing up when he heard his dad's voice. It was a very emotional moment. It just goes to show that everyone has an opinion about cochlear implants, and that's OK! It's not meant to suit everyone. I'm glad this episode was aired, but cochlear implants have a negative connotation, and this hopefully lightened some of that "bad vibe."

  2. I have seen this episode once and I was also excited to watch it! I thought it was interesting that the boy got the cochlear implant but later decided not to use it. I think it still shows that it is not meant for everyone.

  4. I have never seen this episode before. Thank you for sharing. I love how it shows a different side of the cochlear implant, like mentioned before there is a 'bad vibe' that comes with them and its good to be shown positive. And i love how he still chose not to use it. For me it symbolized that he never was missing anything by not being able to hear and feels more like himself when hes not using it.

  5. I haven't seen this episode. Thanks for sharing! A we have all learned this semester we all have opinions, but the most important thing is the success of the deaf individual. I'm glad everything worked out for him! :)

  6. I also watched this episode before I took any ASL. It's neat to watch it again now that I understand the deaf community more! Sometimes I try to put myself in a deaf individual's shoes. And think about the decisions I would make in regards assistive devices considering circumstances. The most important aspect is that the person with the hearing impairment thrives and receives the services they wish to have.
