Reflection

As I finished and turned in my Final Exam it made me realize all that I had learned in this course.
It has been an amazing experience meeting and see the ITP majors interacting with each other. I have a feeling that I will be interacting with interpreters throughout my career as a special education teacher and loved having the ability to start working with them through this class.
Also Cathy I loved your passion and enthusiasm in this course, and i've learned a lot from you this past semester. (Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!) I hope I will be able to inspire my students as much as you have inspired us!
I wish everyone well as people graduate and as others continue with their education!
Have a great summer!!

  1. As an ITP major it was really wonderful being able to work with you all as well. Its great to see another person's perspective of things and learning to work together as professionals. I hope our paths can all cross again in the future.

  2. Thanks, Megan. What I LOVE to read is "realize all that I had learned." Put a plant in the right soil and it GROWS!! Thanks for adding to mine as well!!

  3. Hey Megan, thanks for the delightful post. I'm not sure what was so awesome about seeing us ITP weirdos interacting. lol But it's a nice thought anyway. There was a lot of interesting stuff this semester that we got to do and I'm glad that you're taking the opportunity to look back over it all. For me, the deaf panel was by far the best thing. Loved it. Getting to see my teacher among the deaf signers ruled. I think for me, that was probably one of my favorite parts. Another part for me that really opened my eyes was when we did the reading and writing assignments involving ASL and how it helps to build literacy. I think those were great. It really hit home the use of the words "was" and "by". As someone that was trying to tutor a deaf friend in English for a while before I saw that, it finally struck me WHY we were having such difficulty. Very eye opening experience.

  4. I agree, this class has been very interesting and eye opening for me. While many things we have discussed have been focused towards teaching, I have been able to relate things back to occupational therapy. This class has been really great at helping me see ways to try and help the deaf community with my future work in the healthcare field. I hope to take Cathy's passion into my work in the future.

  5. One thing that I took from this class and remember the most kmis the SEE, Pidgin, ASL lesson. It was amazing to see how often i misuse asl. And it happens more than I even thought. It opened my eyes to the different modes of communication in the deaf community
