I enjoyed this article because it discusses something that anyone who works with deaf people MUST have: Deaf Heart. This is a not a brand new concept; it has been referred to since the early 1990's. However, recently there has been a large push in the interpreting community to have a deaf heart. In the interview to be accepted into the ITP at EKU, the single biggest factor the interviewers are looking for is deaf heart.
Great article! I definitely believe that Deaf heart is so important when working with the Deaf.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt, without it, what is the motive for interpreting? If it's just money or a career....I doubt the person will be truly satisfied with their choice. Deaf heart is of utmost importance!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree, this can apply to any field a person works in. It would be awful to have a nurse who is not nurturing or a teacher who has no patience.
ReplyDeleteI like your analogy, Renee! =)
