Obviously at this point most of us have had some sort of exposure to either deaf or hard or hearing cultures. My question to you all is your perspectives aside (including being educated on the topic) how do you think YOUR families would react if they found out you were d/Deaf and how do you think you would get alone with them?
That's a really good question, Valaya. As far as I know, there are no Deaf individuals in my family. My immediate family really does not know very much about the Deaf World or Deaf community in general. However, research is a big thing with us. We love learning new information and researching almost anything any time, all the time.
ReplyDeleteNow, to answer your question, I think my parents may have been a little uneasy if they found out I was deaf. On another note, I was also adopted, so it may not have been as big of a deal; I don't know. But I think they would have done excessive research on the subject and tried their best to make sure I had the best life they could possibly provide.
I think this is a great question to think about. My family is very suppprortative of all I do and I really do believe if were to become deaf my family would be very support active of what was best for me. I do believe that if we needed to make a move to get me in a school where sign language and it's culture was given- that's where we would go. I believe I would get a long with them fairly well because I believe my parents would begin immediately taking ASL classes !
ReplyDeleteGood questio.
