I don't think it should be a matter of what signing system should be used. I do however think it should be a matter of when various different signing systems are used. Obviously in an english class in a mainstream school an interpreter should be using transliteration etc with ASL signs and english word order.. But in a history class or movie interpretation obviously more ASL should be used.. But it should be based on where the child is.. The earlier they're started with ASL the stronger linguistically they are and the easier it is for them to change sign modes etc.. I missed the last class so I don't know what the full discussion was about but I can guess :)..
