Deaf Blind Retreat!

This past weekend was the Deaf- Blind retreat. For those of you that missed it, it was awesome! There was quite a few Deaf-Blind individuals that were there. Those of us that went worked as a SSP (Support Service Provider). We had the opportunity to communicate Voicing, using ASL, using Tracking, as well as Tactile ASL. Being exposed to a new culture and way of communicating was great. Definitely a learning experience.

  1. This was a great experience. This was my second year, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself again. If any of you who did not attend ever get the chance to go, I would highly recommend it.

  2. I agree, this was a very good learning experience. We got to practice interpreting, voicing and using tactile interpreting. I find it exhausting to constantly be thinking about what this Blind hard of hearing person may need, or what I need to tell them to keep them informed. It was also interesting to hear them (in my case I had individuals who could speak most of the time)talk about their life and experiences which most times were very different than my experiences in life. One thing for sure, they all enjoyed it so much and look forward to this one weekend of the year, all year!!!
