I was in group 1 in last nights lecture. I didn't realize how difficult it was to apply passive and active voice and relate it to sign language. At first I thought I understood, but as Cathy went on and explained to our group how it can impact an individuals language in the deaf community was beyond my knowledge. Last night's class really opened up my eyes to language and sentence structure!

  1. I didn't realize the difference between passive and active in ASL until last night either. I realized how important it is in ASL once Mrs. White explained about how to switch the sentence around so that the ASL message still has the same meaning and isn't misinterpreted.

  2. I agree! I was also in Group One and it was quite difficult to create and use passive voice. In relation to sign language, it was interesting to discover how they interpret English into ASL and why it is so confusing. I am so used to using active voice, especially as a broadcasting major, that trying to conjure the passive sentences was so hard! Like Savannah, it was an eye-opener to grammar and syntax!
