Deaf studies

I know a lot of you in here are interpreting majors and deaf studies majors I am potentially changing my major to one or the other... Can you all give me advice of do's or dont's of changing my major?? Or just fun facts of why to be these majors??

  1. I'm an ITP major and I love it! It isn't for everyone though. My advice would be to find what your passion is. If you have a passion for Interpreting then go for it! If your passion is working with deaf in a specific area like social work or something then I would suggest Deaf studies. Honestly though most of the classes you take during ITP are also classes for Deaf studies majors. At the same time there are a lot that you take that are different as well. Those are the classes more focused on the actual interpreting part. I dont know a lot about Deaf studies but If you want to know more about the program just let me know.

  2. I'm an Elementary Ed major/ DHH major. I started the program with being just an elementary ed major and fell in love with sign language so decided to double major in it. But I agree with Emily make sure it is something you are passionate about.
    I love and enjoy all of my classes learning about the deaf culture and the deaf community. Its just amazing to me.
    Theres always a asl minor too! :)
