Last Night's Activity

I was in group 3 last night, and we were given the task of looking a the pictures in a children's book and developing our own stories.  As I completed the task, I did not realize how much I was learning, but as we discussed all of the components of reading and learning that students attained from this activity, I realized just how much I had actually learned from this simple activity.  It's funny how you can learn and be completely oblivious to it until you take the time to reflect!  I guess it just goes to show you how vital reflection can be!

  1. I was in this group as well, and one thing that I realized I was doing was learning off of what you all said. Just listening to the funny side remarks that was said during the viewing of the book, made me noticed things I wouldn't have otherwise. I never realized the seahorse was hiding in every page until someone said it out loud. Even when we don't realize it, we are learning from one another!

  2. I was also in this group and I completely agree! Before doing the activity, I did not realize how difficult it would be to understand what was happening in the story without reading the words. I also did not realize how important group communication and bouncing ideas off of other people could be. I thought it was a great learning experience!

  3. I was in group 4 doing the same activity. It was interesting to see how 2 groups given the same instructions do the activity in different ways. It was not until we presented to the rest of the class that I really understood the purpose of the activity.

  4. I feel like the classes that we can walk away from and think wow are some of the best. It is so crazy that some times we can look at something and think this is so easy, yet when we try to help other understand we realized how challenging it really can be. Seeing things like grammar, along with many other ideas, are ways that we all need to learn how to see things from another person's perspective.

  5. Same here. With my group it was the modeling thing. And its something ive heard talked about before but never thought about how to portray. And it was really interesting to see the interpreter of my group sign the different character traits. She did an amazing job and its something ill never forget.
