Does anyone ever go to the Silent Lunch Thingies at Fayette Mall? Just want to get some feedback on what goes on. Thinking about going. I do know that it's every 1st and 3rd Friday.
I went once a few years ago. Everyone just gets together in the food court and orders food then sits together and just chats. It's nothing formal just hanging out really.
I've never personally gone, but I know people who have. I've heard mixed feedback about it! Some people enjoyed it, some didn't. I think it has a lot to do with how outgoing you are and how willing you are to talk to new people.
Yes, I have been to them several times. They start at 6pm and last until 9pm, though you can always arrive early. If you have any ASL classes this semester that requires a Deaf event, this would work for you.
You get a chance to meet a lot of people in the Deaf Community. You should go!
I would say Emily is right. I've been to these a bunch myself. Some I enjoyed a lot and others I did not. It really depended on how outgoing I felt that night. So if you feel good one night and happy and outgoing, definitely go. It's a great way to meet a lot of new people and practice your signing. And Joe is right, it's a great experience and it would work for Deaf Community events reports you have to write in ASL Classes.
I think Fayette Mall is a great chance, especially for observing language. It can be a little harder to meet many people unless you're really engaged because it's a tad crowded. Go for it, and if you go early, you can always shop til 6! ;)
I have gone once or twice, but I was in ASL 101 and it was difficult for me to keep up at that time. I feel like I would be more comfortable with it now than before.
It is fun for a hearing person learning sign language to meet Chuck for the first time. For those who have met him, don't spoil it for those who haven't met him yet. :-)
