crazy interesting class discusssion today. Defintely hit some points. one point particular i wanted to mention was the visual phonics. i definitely want to know more about that. i remember watching an ameature blogger but now i want to further my research.
Hi there, visual phonics is sooooo cool. I had an opportunity to work with teachers who were using that modality with deaf and hard of hearing children. I can remember how to "say" Jana's name using visual phonics....I can only remember one letter for mine....clearly hers was easier! LOL! Nonethless, you'll find it fascinating. The children who began using visual phonics made great strides in their ability to spell English words. The teachers compared spelling test scores from the beginning of the school year to tests taken after working with visual phonics and one particular student rose from a failing grade to a C within a relatively short period of time. The method works!! As I think about it, it relates well to how we pronounce words based upon the IPA we've been studying in linguistics class ;)
