For those of you who have never seen a newborn screening. This is my daughter getting hers done. She was only a day old, and they did it right in the hospital room! I'm pretty sure they did the brain stem response test.
It's awesome that you got to see it. Where I'm from, they take your baby away (I know that sounds bad) and then bring him back after the test is done. Thanks for sharing!
I've had experience with performing audiological exams on older individuals, and understand the stimulus and response, but I'm still a little confused how they actually perform the hearing screenings on newborns. Do they base the results from the infants reaction to the noise, or possibly does an electronic device visually show them the acoustic, mechanical, and electrical vibrations through the infants ear?
Wow, that is really interesting! I have never seen one used for children so I really appreciate you putting this up. It's amazing how technology has changed so we can find out so much about a baby before it's born or even in it's first day. I imagine this was possibly nerve racking for you as the parent to see how your child responded.
