I'm curious if there is not some pamplet of options they can give new parents of deaf children.
Dragon Age at 00:00 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
Info at a doctor's office typically only relates to c-implants..
E. at 00:00 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
This was the case with one of my good friends..
E. at 00:01 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
They didn't recommend any outside information sources?
Dragon Age at 00:01 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
They were told not to allow their child to sign AT ALL & implant them ASAP..
E. at 00:02 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
Good grief.
Dragon Age at 00:02 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
Nope. Nothing. This was also the first deaf child in the family. They did not know they had other options.
E. at 00:02 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
Thats really true. My niece is almost 2 and she has learned a lot of signs as well as words. She picks it up so easily!
Emma loo at 00:02 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
The doctors only said to implant..
E. at 00:02 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
Yes, I taught mine some basic signlanguage too. It has helped her develop other language skills as well.
Dragon Age at 00:03 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
I think it also depends on the area and location of the doctor's offices. Different regions are more acceptable for options.
Nicolette at 00:03 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
That's sad, E.
Dragon Age at 00:04 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via

E. at 00:10 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
treatment- the manner in which someone behaves toward or deals with someone or something

Dragon Age at 00:11 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
It has two meanings... The second is the medical care given to a patient for an illness or injury. I think that this is the one we assume.

But the first one relates to tonight.
Nicolette at 00:12 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via

I don't put a negative connotation with treatment but I think now we're construing it as a negative

Good point
nevillekc at 00:13 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via

Valaya at 00:33 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
How has anything in history ever changed?
Mrs. White at 00:34 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
"history tends to repeat itself"... so... it hasn't..
E. at 00:35 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
If a child has no language . . . what is the response?
Mrs. White at 00:36 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
I think the response is to help the child some how acquire language whether it be through hearing aids, speech therapy, signing, etc.
Valaya at 00:37 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
oh yea!!!!!!!
Magic Mike at 00:38 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
Wouldn't the response be to try and give them a way to communicate? In whatever way they connect with best, either words, sounds, or signs
you know your Lykins it at 00:38 AM, 19 Feb 2013 via
